URGENT ACTION: Take Action To Free Tenzin Delek Rinpoche Print E-mail

Revered Tibetan leader, Tenzin Delek Rinpoche was arrested in 2002 and given a suspended death sentence for a crime he did not commit. Following a high profile international campaign his sentence was commuted to life in 2005. He is currently in poor health in a prison in Sichuan and the authorities have denied his request for Tibetan medication.

In June 2009, Tenzin Delek Rinpoche told a community member who visited him in prison, “I am not guilty, please appeal for justice for me … call all people together and do everything possible to help me overturn the verdict”. In a remarkable act of support, 40,000 Tibetans in his community signed petitions - many signatures being in the form of thumbprints - demanding justice for their leader.

The International Tibet Support Network is aiming to show the level of international concern for the case of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche - replicating the Tibetan petition by collecting virtual ‘thumbprints’ online and on the streets around the world.
