Last week, amidst the excitement of the US election, a top Chinese official with direct responsibility for the Chinese Communist Party’s attacks on Tibetan culture slipped in and out of Australia almost unnoticed.
Zhou Yongkang, China’s former Minister for Public Security, spent around five days in Australia including a brief meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith. Stephen Smith was reported to have raised his concerns over the deteriorating situation in Tibet during the meeting. |
