UN Committee Finds "Deepened Climate Of Fear" In Tibet Print E-mail

The UN Committee against Torture has released its concluding observations of China’s report on its adherence to the UN Convention against Torture. China, like other State parties to the Torture Convention is required to submit periodic reports to the Committee on its implementation of the provisions of the Convention.

Tibetan Exiles Back Dalai Lama, Challenge Talks With China Print E-mail

The Special Meeting called by the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India closed with a strong endorsement of the ‘Middle Way’ approach, which seeks a genuine autonomy within the framework of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), but also clearly stated that exile Tibetans might take a position seeking independence if results of engagement were not evident “in the near future”.

Foreign Minister Meets Senior Chinese Official, Raises Tibet Concerns Print E-mail

Last week, amidst the excitement of the US election, a top Chinese official with direct responsibility for the Chinese Communist Party’s attacks on Tibetan culture slipped in and out of Australia almost unnoticed.

Zhou Yongkang, China’s former Minister for Public Security, spent around five days in Australia including a brief meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith. Stephen Smith was reported to have raised his concerns over the deteriorating situation in Tibet during the meeting.

Top Tibetan Academic to Visit Australia - Free Public Talks Print E-mail

The Australia Tibet Council is excited to be hosting internationally acclaimed expert on China-Tibet issues, Dr. Lobsang Sangay of Harvard University, for three days in early December. Dr. Sangay will be coming to Australia direct from the emergency summit in India to decide on a future course for the Tibet movement.
