The past year was very much one of transition for ATC as the organisation moved towards more e-mail and web-based communication and campaigning. A high priority during 2006, was the complete redesign and rebuilding of the website – www.atc.org.au.

The website now provides visitors with the ability to access information and support Tibet quickly and easily by participating in actions such as signing up to letters and petitions, purchasing merchandise, making donations and becoming ATC activists.

The disruption caused by these changes impacted on ATC’s fundraising over the past year. As a result, from 2005 to 2006 ATC’s income fell by $73,000 and expenses by $42,000. This was largely due to not running a Trek for Tibet.

For 2007, income looks like being up by around $80,000 and we are working hard to keep expenses steady. There are already over 20 registrations for this year’s Trek for Tibet.

While annual membership declined over the year, the number of monthly contributors via “Voice for Tibet” continues to grow and the number of supporters signed up to the ATC Email List now exceeds 13,000.

ATC will do its utmost to ensure that the interest and enthusiasm created by HH Dalai Lama’s visit in June will generate on-going support for the Tibetan cause. We believe that the Dalai Lama’s “Middle Way” approach coupled with the world’s focus on China during the 2008 Games in Beijing provides the best opportunity in many years to make real progress in Tibet.

Thank you for supporting Tibet and the Australia Tibet Council.
