ATC is saddened to hear the news of human rights activist Sid Spindler’s passing in Melbourne on Sunday 2 March.

Sid was remembered as a passionate advocate for human rights who stood up on many occassions in support of the Tibetan people - attending demonstrations, public gatherings and speaking out in support of human rights for refugees and indigenous peoples.

Sid helped found the Australian Democrats 30 years ago and served as a Victorian Senator from 1990 to 1996. Sid was happy to have lived to hear the Australian parliament apologise last month for the removal of Aboriginal children from their families, something on which he had campaigned for many years.

Sid was 75 and passed away peacefully after a year-long battle with liver cancer. ATC passes on its sincere condolences to his wife Julia and children Kerry, Chris, Lindy and Bec, and four grandchildren.
