Dalai Lama Offers To Meet Chinese President
The Dalai Lama has again spoken to journalists and clarified that he has long ago met China’s conditions for talks. He said that he was “always ready to meet Chinese leaders, particularly Hu Jintao” but unless the was “a real concrete development” in the Tibet situation. The Dalai Lama said taht he was unlikely to visit Beijing for peace talks, which he said would be likely to raise unrealistic expectations of a breakthrough.
The Dalai Lama’s spokesman later confirmed that while he did not wish to simply provide the Chinese with a photo-opportunity that could be used against him, he was ready to discuss a “mutually agreeable solution” to the issue of Tibet.

Speaker Pelosi Offers Her Support
US House of Representatives Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, met the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala on Friday and called on the world to denounce China’s crackdown on protests in Tibet.
“If freedom-loving people throughout the world do not speak out against China’s oppression in Tibet, we have lost our moral authority to speak on behalf of human rights anywhere in the world,” said Pelosi. “The situation in Tibet is a challenge to the conscience of the world.”
