Days after the 50th anniversary of the March 10 Tibetan uprising, footage has been released by the Central Tibetan Administration of brutal police treatment of Tibetans during protests against Chinese rule beginning in March 2008.
WARNING: The images in this video may be disturbing and includes footage of a medical procedure on a Tibetan who later died of his wounds.
The uprising began with Buddhist monk-led protests in Lhasa, Tibet’s capital to commemorate the anniversary of the original March 10, 1959 uprising against China’s occupation. Protests quickly spread throughout Tibet and the Chinese government filled Tibetan areas with troops and paramilitary police, brutally suppressing any dissent.
The second part of the video shows the horrific injuries suffered by a young man named Tendar who was arrested and tortured by Chinese police after attempting to stop the beating of a monk. He succumbed to his injuries and died shortly after.
The third section shows the heavy military presence in Tibet around the time of the 50th anniversary of the March 10th 1959 uprising in Lhasa.
