Stand Up for Tibet on 2 November Print E-mail
Tomorrow is the Global Day of Action on Tibet. The recent wave of immolations in eastern Tibet, reflecting the desperation faced by young Tibetans living under China’s oppressive regime, sends a strong message that the international community must act urgently.
 
Australia Tibet Council and the Sydney Tibetan Community will join Tibetans and supporters in over 60 cities around the world to Stand Up for Tibet and to draw the Australian government’s attention to the critical situation in Tibet. Read more
 
ATC Joins Global Day of Action on Tibet Print E-mail

Australia Tibet Council made a renewed call to Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd on Monday, urging him to publicly express the Australian government’s concerns on the escalating crisis in eastern Tibet in the wake of the recent immolations by young Tibetans. Read our second letter here.

On 2 November, Tibetans and Tibet supporters are organising public events in over 50 countries for a Global Day of Action on Tibet. In Sydney, the Tibet Council is joining the local Tibetan community at a protest at the Chinese consulate, followed by a vigil in Hyde Park. Read more

Crisis in Ngaba - what YOU can do Print E-mail

Tibetans are being pushed beyond their limit. On Monday morning Lobsang Konchok and Lobsang Kalsang, two young monks from Kirti Monastery in Ngaba, eastern Tibet, set themselves alight in a desperate last plea for religious freedom.

Responding to this latest incident, the US State Department has urged China to respect the rights of Tibetans, allow access to journalists and diplomats, and protect Tibetans’ unique cultural identity. We need Australia to do the same. Read on to see what you can do now.
