On 2 November, Tibetans and Tibet supporters are organising public events in over 50 countries for a Global Day of Action on Tibet. In Sydney, the Tibet Council is joining the local Tibetan community at a protest at the Chinese consulate, followed by a vigil in Hyde Park. Read more

The Foreign Minister has not broken his silence. However we do understand that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has made representation to its Chinese counterparts last week. Thank you for your hundreds of emails and phone calls to the Foreign Minister’s office.
On Tuesday, yet another monk, 38-year-old Dawa Tsering from Kardze which is close to from Ngaba, became the eighth Tibetan to set fire himself on fire.
For the last few weeks, we have also been working to raise the matter in the Parliament with the support of All-Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet. Last Saturday, Greens leader Senator Bob Brown held a press conference calling on the government to respond to the situation in Tibet.
Our team is back in Canberra next week during which Mr Michael Danby, MP, chair of the parliamentary Tibet group and also the chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, will make a statement on the Tibetan situation in the House. Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, Greens spokesperson on Tibet, will move a motion on Ngaba in the Senate.
