Protesting against The University of Queensland’s Confucius Institute
Protestors gathered at The University of Queensland (UQ) to call for greater transparency around the university’s Confucius Institute.
Tibetan activist Tenzin Phuntsok Doring addressed the crowd:
“I am evidence of China’s oppression. Confucius Institutes have set conditions on Australian universities – why don’t you put conditions on them? If you do not respect human rights in Hong Kong, Tibet, Xinjiang, for the Falun Gong people then you should not open Confucius Institutes here. These are the conditions that should be put by The University of Queensland and Australia as a whole.”
