‘Save Tibet” Balloon Flies Over Melbourne
The Olympics have come and gone but our volunteers are showing no signs of slowing up in their sterling efforts to keep Tibet in the spotlight.
Early Monday morning, just hours after the Closing Ceremony, members of the ATC Victorian Branch took to the skies above Melbourne in a bright yellow hot air balloon emblazoned with ‘Save Tibet’ and a Tibetan flag. The ‘Save Tibet’ balloon will be flying mornings for the next few weeks.
The action was made possible by a generous offer from Kiff Saunders of Global Ballooning. Kiff was among the first foreigners to visit Tibet in the early 1980s.
“The coming months are critical for Tibet’s future” said Simon Bradshaw, ATC’s Campaign Coordinator. “If the world turns away from Tibet then the situation will continue to deteriorate. Only real negotiations between the Chinese leadership and the Dalai Lama will save Tibet. And it will take sustained and strategic support from the international community for this to happen.”
