Dalai Lama celebrates 90th Birthday – the ‘Year of Compassion’.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama turned 90 on 6th July 2025. To mark this auspicious occcasion the office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration declared the year, 2025 a ‘ Year of Compassion’.

This year in July, His Holiness the Dalai Lama also made a statement, reaffirming his position on the reincarnation process for the lineage of the Dalai Lamas. He once again stated that the authority to appoint the next Dalai Lama remains solely with the Gaden Phodrang Trust and no interference from the Chinese Government will be accepted.

The statement not only created interest in learning about the process of His Holiness the Dalai Lama reincarnation, but also shone light on human rights abuses in Tibet, including the adbuction of the then 6 year old, 11th Panchen Lama, another important religous figure in Tibetan Buddhism.
