Newcastle Mayor Discusses Tibetan Community with the Chinese Consul-General

In an article by the Newcastle Hearld on 24 July 2025, it was revealed that the Newcastle Lord Mayor, Dr. Ross Kerridge had a meeting with the Chinese Consul General Wang Yu. In the meeting the Lord Mayor and the Chinese Consul General discussed many topics including the Tibetan Community of Newcastle, Taiwan and nuclear submarines

The incident caused great alarm to us at Australia Tibet Council and to the Newcastle Tibetan Community. ATC was able to raise the issue with the Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Australian Parliament during Tibet Lobby Day 2025.
