Tibetan Uprising Day – 10 March 2026

Event: Tibetan Uprising Day Rally for Religious Freedom in Tibet
Date: Tuesday, 10 March 2026 – 10 am (AEDT)
Location: Parliament House Lawns, Canberra

Purpose
To mark the 67 anniversary of the 1959 Tibetan Uprising in Lhasa the captial of Tibet, and call for support for religious freedom in Tibet, including the right of Tibetan Buddhists to determine the future reincarnation of the 14th Dalai Lama, according to Tibetan Buddhist traditions without interference from the Chinese Government.

Event Overview
The event is organised by Australia Tibet Council and the Tibetan Communities of Australia, with participation from Tibetan community members from Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Victoria, NSW South Coast and Wagga Wagga.

A large installation of 90 strings of colourful prayer flags will be displayed to mark the Dalai Lama’s 90th year. Tibetan monks and nuns will lead prayers, and members of the Tibetan community will gather in song and chanting.

Several Federal Parliamentarians are expected to speak, including Sentor Lidia Thorpe, Sophie Scamps MP, Senator Barbara Pocock, Kate Chaney MP, and David Smith MP.
