Keanu Reeves’ movies taken down in China
Keanu Reeves’ movies have reportedly been removed from Chinese streaming platforms recently after his participation in the Annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert.
Keanu received a flood of hate and troll messages from Chinese netizens, when his name in the concert line-up was announced earlier this year. According to Reuters, this has been followed by highly popular movies such as Matrix and John Wick series being taken down on Chinese sites Tencent Video and iQiyi.
Clearly threatened by Keanu Reeves’ support for Tibet, China has once again tried to censor and suppress any questions that may arise against their illegal occupation of Tibet.
The Freedom concert is an annual event organised by the Tibet House US, which featured high-profile names such as Phillip Glass, Cyndi Lauper and Keanu Reeves amongst others.
This incident adds to the growing list of names banned in China, such as footballer Mesut Ozil and basketball player Enes Kanter who have spoken against the Uyghur genocide and occupation of Tibet respectively.
The world must wake up to such repression and hold China accountable for its inhumane practices.
