7 Nov 2024: Shadow Foreign Minister Simon Birmingham raises the Australian Ambassador to China, Scott Dewar’s visit to Tibet during Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation Committee – Senate Estimates.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) share to the committee that the Australian Ambassador visited Tibet from 20 to 24 October 2024.
DFAT added that the visit was requested to raise concerns around human rights in Tibet and that Australian Ambassador Dewar met with the Executive Vice Chairman Chen Yongqi on 22 October 2024, whom DFAT described as “the third most senior official” of the Chinese-defined Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR).
