Australia raises human rights in Tibet and interference in selection of Dalai Lama at 60th UN Human Rights Council session.

23 September 2025: Australia Tibet Council welcomes the Australian statement at the 60th session of UN Human Right Council, which mentioned Tibet and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Australia’s Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Ms. Clare Walsh delivered Australia’s statement at the 60th session of the Human Rights Council which mentioned concerns surrounding human rights in Tibet.

The statement emphasises that government should be “Consistent with international law and norms, governments should not interfere in the selection of religious leaders – including the Dalai Lama”.

We are pleased to share that ATC had opportunities to consistently advocate and provide information about His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation and religious freedoms in Tibet, to the Australian Government during the build-up to this statement.
